Great work everyone. We now have 7,599 members. 2001 more members needed by Dec 31. If everyone can get at least one member in IV we can easily cross this target.
It is also a reminder to everyone to contribute. In the past 2 days there have been no contributions. In this whole month, less than 15 people have contributed. only 2 people contributed $200 and some $100 and everyone else less than $100. With this you can imagine how much contributions we get. This holiday season, all make sure to contribute some amount to IV. This money will work for you.

Advocating without the added support of the lobbyists does not work in favor of us...
Defenitely we also need a powerful lobby. Illegals probably have the best lobby out there hampering our efforts.
I can understand their motivation, as they're basically getting thousands of dollars free for jumping the border, and they want to take it further.
We legals have paid taxes and contributed more than we earn and are weary of seeing this.
Another small suggestion - could we also add compensation for members who have face to face meeting with lawmakers? This may be some small motivation for them. Funds from adds could be diverted to give preference to direct meeting on a large scale.
We don't have millions to influence public opinion, but have enough for 500 lawmakers.
Illegals don't need motivation because they're stealing, begging for other free stuff.
exclude me, I don't want anything.

Cam somebody please explain what ETF's are with a simple example; web definitions on it are too technical for me. Thanks
etf is very much like a pool of money that is used to buy certain set of stocks and then that set of stocks itself is divided into many equally priced units and sold to you, me and who ever wants to buy. after the "units" are sold, there are no new contributions to the pool of money and the stock composition does not change (in most cases). the exception is that in some cases, when the etf's "set of stocks" is actually a representation of an index (e.g. the SPY etf tracks s&p500), if the index itself changes (so if s&p 500 gets a new stock in it and an old stock is removed) then the etf holdings may change. to do all this crap, the company that puts together the initial pool of money charges a management fee.
the closes relative of an etf is the closed ended mutual fund. the only difference is that there is active management of the fund throughout it's life to maximize returns (i.e. stocks are bought and sold). typically, to do this crap, companies (understandably) charge more management fee.
in investor's terms, if you want direct but diversified exposure to a specific sector or specific index or specific anything of the market, then ETFs are a great instrument!

I read all your posts. I am sure you are just an anti-immigration guy. why do you pretend being Chinese and pretend being EB1? just try to devide our EB community? Shame on you! You even don't have courage to show us who you really are.
America is country of Immigrants. Diversity visa allows everyone come. Prevents USA become small India, Mexico or China. Think from people who wrote USA law mind. We too narrow and think about only MY Greencard.

Ok, ok . Once upon a time, when we were planning the San Jose rally, Tamsen & me were discussing that we hand out flowers to passerby because that way, we could weave the concept of "flower campaign" into the San Jose rally.
So, I posted a message with subject line "Flowery campaign"
On the actual day of the rally, after we were all done. Some laggards including Logiclife, Pratik, myself and a few others went to lunch. There Logiclife mentioned that one strange dude (which was me) had posted such a strange sissy message about "flowery" stuff. It seems that Logiclife must have forgotten my ID. He said it so seriously that I didn't have the heart to tell him that it was me. He went on to say that what was this person thinking.
Fast forward to Situation room in Hyatt(09/16), someone suggested the idea of handing out flowers to passerby again. The old wounds were reopened ;-). I thought that this is the time for my pound of flesh. Logiclife, as anticipated opposed the "flowery" idea. I then pointed out that the strange guy who posted the earlier "Flowery idea" at San Jose rally was me ;-). I saw Logiclife turn red. Paskal took the cue and started to close in on the kill and wanted Logiclife to support the idea. That is the story. Other gals picked up onto this and that is how Logiclife got cornered by the "flowery" idea.:o

one of my friend in the same company got approval in 3 months that one is not audited
we both filed at the same time atlanta centre he is lucky guy
Yeah, some people are lucky , some are are approved in 60 days(cases without audit) while we are stuck here for months. What is MTR? i Think they have denied a few audit cases, I saw on , i think if i'm not mistaken a certain case has october'07 audit reply and was denied this march '08 . i'm not sure. thanks for replying.:)

why do you say so??
Till early part of 2004 or latter part of 2003, most of the Indians applied EB3 very few applied EB2. After 2004, it was reverse. I doubt any one appled EB3 in 2005 0r 2006.
If EB3 stays continously in 2001 and EB2 in 2004 (there is 3 year difference in cutoff date between EB2 and EB3 now), the guys with EB3 PD 2002 and 2003 will convert to EB2 by applying new 140 to transfer PD. This flow will balance the cut-off dates. Eventually it will reach a common ground or a break-even point.

I have been a trader for thr last 3 years. I am more of a swing trader than a day trader... But I do a lot of day trading too. I believe trading is the only way to make money in the stock market... Everything that the mainstream media tells about long term investing is baloney... Here is an excellent video about market manipulation by Jim Cramer (For the recrd, I hate the guy and he gives very bad advises... but then he just an entertainer):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMShFx5rThI
Chintu has started an excellent topic here... It does require tremendous amount of discipline, patience and hard work and its definitely not for the faint hearted... Chintu is covering lots of things here, but the on;y thing I would like to add is learning about macro economics... that will help you spot major trends in the market... Also, apart from regular stocks there are double and triple long and inverse etfs... For eg FAS and FAZ... These are triple long and short etfs for the financial sector. These are leveraged three times, which means these are on full dose of steroids... If market goes up 10% these go up 30% and vice versa... so you can make or lose a lot of money in a very short time... Happy trading!

Pasadena congressman Adam Schiff from CA supports legal immigration. I received an email from him recently stating the same.
"In considering immigration reform, Rep. Schiff has repeatedly stated that he does not believe in amnesty for undocumented aliens, but he does believe that those who have been living in this country -- working and paying taxes -- should be given an opportunity to embark on a lengthy and hard-earned path to citizenship. However, he has made it clear that he does not support immigrants who are here illegally being rewarded for breaking our laws by jumping ahead of those who have sought to enter this country legally."

Do you know the story of the crow getting to the water by putting pebbles into the jug which had very little water?
Well, here we are: the water is IV's target...the pebbles are the contributions ($200, great, but $20, still good!!) from a large number of members. It's impossible to justify why one can not contribute $200 when the core members and some others like you & anurakt have given so much more. I believe it is equally important to encourage as many members to contribute as much they can.
No contribution is too small if it is actually made. An ounce of action is better than a pound of intention!
The weekness in this analogy is the absence of a time limit on the crow. If the crow will die by a certain time, then the crow better start putting bigger pebbles.
It will take 10 months to pay $200 if you pay $20/month. Legislation may start coming up in Feb. Money is needed to get the issue on the table and NOT when the issue is on the table. That time is right now.

What's going on here is that approx there are 500,000 people on H1B visas in this country.
If Anti-H1 crowd propose a bill to throw all of them out, people will laugh at them and ask them to get lost.
So what the anti-H1 crowd has done here is "Slow bleed" as described by admin. Get rid of 8000-10,000 H1Bs out of the country each month. That way, the impact will slow and it wont send any shockwaves. IF existing H1s go to renew their H1 and the new rules apply, half of them wont fit in the new rules of "You cannot do consulting". So they will have to go back.
These guys are trying to do what UK did to Indian and Chinese doctors. They want all of us to go back. Only difference between what UK did to doctors and what these guys want to do to us is that these guys are smarter and they are trying to get this done in slow motion. IF they take Tancredo like approach of "Everyone out, and shut the door", then it wont work.
They have learned from Tancredo's mistake and now have adoped this slow bleed strategy of getting rid of their competition.
If desi bodyshops are punished this way, then all of us will also be punished. This is not the right way to stop abuse. The right way to stop abuse is to allow more portability between jobs and retention of PDs, etc.
By making consulting totally illegal, they are going too far and the fallout will be felt by H1B employees also.
Basically, they want the 1990s back. They want to roam in job market with foriegn competition, where even high-school drop-outs can get jobs of $100,000 a year by writing 20 lines of code per week.
Man up you xenophobes. Face the competition and stop being whiny boys running to Grassley and Sessions every time you lose jobs. Get a job and get a life. Unemployment rate is 4.4 %. If you cant find jobs right now, dont blame H1B employees. Something is wrong with you.

It is great relief.

why bother show up on IV now? I dont like ppl joining IV just to declare their GC status - no contribution.

If what I have heard is true, your lawyers made it late.
The Visa bulletin came out almost 4 weeks back. You should have hurried the application in. Check with your lawyer to see is there any special ways to get your app in.
What i will say is hurry it now at least.
Good luck buddy
its common to have delayed approvals for primary and spouse, i wont panic unless its 2-3 months more, however as someone stated you shoudl check with lawyer to expedite if has been delayed
i have seen cases of many folks where spouse got it first and then the primary and vice versa, thats why i called out.
